BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres held practice Tuesday morning at KeyBank Center as they prepared for their second of a three-game road trip against Montreal on Thursday.
The team announced that captain Kyle Okposo will be week-to-week with a lower-body injury he sustained during Buffalo's 5-1 loss in Ottawa Sunday night.
“Obviously, there’s a concern for him, first of all, but he’s been playing better and better certainly the last 15 games,” Sabres coach Don Granato said. “He’s had a really great stretch. He’s a competitor, an ultra-competitor."
Sabres coach Don Granato returned to the team after being away for two games due to illness.
While away from the team, he was still able to help out remotely as Rochester Americans coach Seth Appert assumed his role behind the bench.
“Absolutely a different perspective when it came to puck drop and game time. Fortunate we were able to have Seth come in and keep everybody in their spots and keep moving with some continuity," Granato said. "Seth is in the routine of a head coach, so you know all the details and all the things that you have to think of, moving parts and pieces. He’s done it every day this year as a head coach, so for him there’s no change."
Goaltender Eric Comrie, who was placed on waivers Sunday to make room for Zemgus Girgensons, was assigned to Rochester on Monday after clearing waivers.
Devon Levi and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will both receive more reps Granato says, as the team moves to a two-goalie rotation.
The Sabres face the Montreal Canadiens next on Thursday evening, with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
