BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Bufalo Sabres hired a new coach in the offseason. Now they've named a new captain.
The Sabres and head coach Lindy Ruff announced Thursday that defenseman Rasmus Dahlin will be the team captain. The alternate captains include Alex Tuch, Dylan Cozens, Mattias Samuelsson, and Tage Thompson.
"He does everything right, first and foremost," Ruff said in a statement Thursday, announcing the news. "His on-ice action has been incredible, and I think he’s a guy that leads in every category, from the way he prepares himself to the way he plays and the fact that he’s a guy who cares about winning hockey games."
The 24-year-old defenseman signed an eight-year contract extension worth $88 million last October.
