Zed Williams is no stranger to the world of professional sports.
Hailing from Irving, New York, Williams has dominated on the lacrosse scene at various levels, from college lacrosse at Virginia, to winning championships in both the National Lacrosse League and Premier Lacrosse League.
Now, Williams is looking to take his talents over to football.
“I think if you’re a competitor, you’re a competitor, and if you want it bad enough, you know what I mean, that’s how I was raised so I’m taking my chance and trying to work as hard as I can," Williams said.
Williams is getting that chance with his hometown Buffalo Bills, taking part in the team’s rookie minicamp.
The challenge for Williams: going from an MVP winning lacrosse player to starting from scratch on the football field.
“I’m just trying to get as dialed in as I can but at the same time learn as much as I can, but at the same time, coming from the lacrosse world, it takes those mental reps for me and just kind of walking through things on my own. Like mentally, I’m there and can do things faster.”
Luckily, Williams says there are some things that carry over from lacrosse to football.
“Reacting to plays," Williams said. "Just using your skills and hand eye coordination and reacting to things are the best translation I feel like from lacrosse.”
And no matter how his football journey ends up going, Williams hopes to serve as an inspiration for the current generation of kids growing up on the Cattaraugus Reservation.
“I know there’s a lot of talent there. I just hope kids can see that there’s a lot more than the reservation and they can go past that.”
