CITY OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. – Western New York’s first e-commerce “exchange zone” is now up and running.
Two parking spots in front of the City of Tonawanda Police Department are designed to serve as a safe spot for folks to complete online transactions.
Mayor Rick Davis said they are monitored 24/7 by cameras. That feed goes directly into the police station dispatch center.
The area is also well-lit, and the cameras capture license plate numbers as well, in case something goes wrong.
“We’re hoping to avoid the City making the news for all the wrong reasons,” Mayor Davis said, noting crimes that have happened across the country during face-to-face transactions.
Until now, the closest “exchange zone” was at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office in Geneseo.
