NEW YORK, NY — After spending about 17 days in a New York City hospital, Bills Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly has been discharged after his cancer surgery, according to Instagram posts from his daughter Erin and wife Jill.
"With a swollen smile, and a cane in his hand he was DISCHARGED from the hospital today!
Praise the LORD! So THANKFUL for Dr. Mark Urken, his team, and the rest of the amazing Mount Sinai staff," Jill wrote on Instagram.
Jill says that Jim's recovery will continue in New York City for the next two weeks before they return to Buffalo.
"What a blessing it has been to take care of my dad while he was in the hospital the last few weeks. He was discharged today!" Jim's daughter Erin wrote. "There’s still a lot of healing to do over the next month or two, but we are trusting God one day at a time! Thank you to everyone who has been praying. We love you!"

Kelly underwent a 12-hour surgery on March 28 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City to remove the oral cancer.
His surgeon, Dr. Mark Urken, Head and Neck Surgeon at Mount Sinai West, sent the following statement on Jim's condition:
“Mr. Kelly was discharged from the hospital today after an extremely favorable recovery. The speed of that process, considering the extensive nature of his surgery, was a function of his toughness, the firmness of his resolve, his faith and the support of his family. All of those factors will continue to serve him well as he moves on to the next phase of his rehabilitation."
