GETZVILLE, N.Y. — No injuries were reported following a 2-alarm fire that happened Wednesday in Getzville.

After getting home and opening the front door, a homeowner at 213 Forestview Drive was met by heavy smoke and fire, which the Getzville Fire Company said came from the kitchen and living room area, in the rear of the house.

"Crews encountered heavy fire throughout the residence, and due to the advanced fire spread, crews were forced to exit the home for a time to fight the fire from the outside," Amherst Central Fire Alarm Office said in a statement.

Eventually, crews managed to get back into the home and extinguish any remaining spots.

The fire caused an estimated $800,000 in damages. That included $600,000 in damage to the structure and the rest to the building's contents.

The homeowner was evaluated at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Amherst Fire Inspectors Office and the Amherst Police Department.
