CASTILE, N.Y. – A 31-year-old Buffalo man was rescued from the Genesee River gorge Sunday, after he fell in Letchworth State Park in the afternoon.

The man, identified as Eric Dumas, fell about 30 feet, just above the brink of the falls, according to New York State Parks Police spokesman Randy Simons.

State Park Police officers were able to descend to the man for initial medical treatment, and then used a rescue basket for helicopter extraction. Dumas was transferred over to a Mercy Flight helicopter and taken to Erie County Medical Center.

The accident remains under investigation by the New York State Park Police.
