Fire causes vacant home on Oberlin Ave. to collapse

An early morning fire caused part of a home on Oberlin Avenue to collapse Friday morning.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- An early morning fire caused part of a home on Oberlin Avenue in Buffalo's East Side to collapse.

Buffalo Fire Department said the call for fire came in at 3:30 Friday morning with reports of lots of smoke in the area.

First arriving firefighters said they saw the one story home and attic completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters started from the back of the home, making sure no one was inside. A division chief said the home was vacant.

Oberlin Avenue is a dead end street so there was limited water for firefighters to use, causing a bit of a challenge. They laid water lines down and brought in some water from Sycamore Street.

The fire was under control just after 5 a.m. and crews cleared the scene before 7 a.m.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
