FeedMore WNY volunteers fill backpacks with food for kids in need

The program helps provide weekend meals for kids who are on the school breakfast and lunch program during the week. It runs all year, not just during the holidays.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's the busiest time of the year for many non-profit groups and organizations that serve the community.

And Friday at FeedMore Western New York, volunteers were busy packing up backpacks full of food for local kids in need.

It's a program that helps provide weekend meals for kids who are on the school breakfast and lunch program during the week.

But FeedMore Western New York says it's important that people remember to help those in need all year, and not just during the holiday season.

"I do think that this is a time of year where giving is top of mind for many of our community members, and we're really grateful for the increased support during this time of year," said Catherine Schick, the director of communications with FeedMore WNY.

"Of course, hunger does not stop after the holidays, so we continue to need volunteers throughout the year to help us fight hunger 365 days a year."

If you're interested in volunteering,  you can head to the FeedMore WNY website or call the organization at (716) 852-1305.
