Cheektowaga Hopes To Unload Hovercraft By Month's End

Bought new in 2011 for $70,000, the town could never find a consistent use for hovercraft. It will now sell it for whatever "reasonable" offer it can get

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY - Cheektowaga’s Highway Superintendent says the town hopes to have its surplus hovercraft sold by the end of this month.

Mark Wegner tells 2 On Your Side that since the town hosted a demonstration of the unusual item of surplus equipment three weeks ago, they’ve gotten inquiries from about a dozen interested buyers.

This past Tuesday, the town board approved a resolution officially rescinding the previous sale of the hovercraft to a dealer in Illinois, which had agreed to purchase it last April, but then backed out of the deal.

According to Wegner, the town will consider the best "reasonable" bids for the Hovercraft, and if a sale still can’t be made, will likely put the hovercraft up on the auction block.

Purchased new in 2011 for $70,000 , the town could never find a consistent use for hovercraft, after environmental regulations made its intended use to clear branches and other debris from flood prone creeks and streams cost prohibitive.
