2 people die in Town of Ellicottville house fire

The fire caused "catastrophic damage," the sheriff's office said. After it was extinguished, crews found the two victims inside the home.

ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. — Two people died after a fire broke out in a Cattaraugus County home early Friday.

A 82-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife died inside the home, the Cattaraugus County Sheriff Office said in a statement Sunday. No age was provided for the wife, and no names were given at this time.

A medical alert alarm on Bryant Hill Road in the Town of Ellicottville was reported around 1:40 a.m. Friday, according to the Ellicottville Police Department. Heavy fire conditions were observed by the first people to arrive on the scene.

The fire caused "catastrophic damage," the sheriff's office said.

After it was extinguished, crews found the two victims inside the home.

The Ellicottville, Franklinville, Great Valley, Machias, and West Valley fire companies battled the blaze.

"The origin and cause of the fire are being investigated by the Cattaraugus County Fire Investigation Team and the Ellicottville Police Department," the sheriff's office said.
