Deal signed to sell former Huntley plant to new owners

Town of Tonawanda confirms NRG signed a Purchase and Sale Agreement, for the former Huntley plant site, with WB Huntley Redevelopment LLC.

TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. — Joseph Emminger, Town of Tonawanda Supervisor, calls it the biggest news for his municipality in years.

After Monday night's town board meeting, Emminger says they're free to formally announce that NRG has a signed a PSA (Purchase and Sale Agreement) for the former Huntley Generating Station on River Road.

The prospective owner is WB Huntley Redevelopment LLC, affiliated with WarrenBrook Redevelopment LLC out of New York City.

Emminger tells 2 On Your Side it is still too early to discuss what will happen on that property. The town supervisor said they have met with the prospective owners as well as NRG last week.

"We are very appreciative of the efforts that NRG went through in vetting WB Huntley. The company has a proven track record and the financial wherewithal in our opinion, to make this site the lynchpin of our waterfront redevelopment over the next 10 years," said Emminger of the deal.

Emminger added that the developers assured them that they are committed to cleaning up the site and involving the community in the redevelopment process going forward.
